Oklahoma City residents can sign up for $3.65-a-month ambulance coverage through Wednesday, Sept. 30.
That is the final day to enroll in EMSAcare, the city's ambulance subscription program, according to the City of Oklahoma City. September is the only month residents can change their membership status. Anyone who misses the deadline cannot re-enroll until September 2027.
The stakes go up Oct. 1. EMSA, the ambulance provider, will raise its qualified emergency medical transports and introduce a new $500 treatment-in-place fee for patients who receive on-scene medical treatment but are not taken to a hospital, the city said. EMSAcare members will not be affected by those increases.
What EMSAcare covers
The program pays out-of-pocket expenses for emergency ambulance transports to any hospital ER in EMSA's service area, which includes Oklahoma City, Nichols Hills, The Village and Tulsa. That means copays, co-insurance and deductibles are covered.
A typical emergency ambulance ride can cost about $800 even with insurance, the city said. Without insurance, the bill can top $1,650.
Coverage applies to all permanent household members regardless of age, relationship or insurance status. There is no limit on the number of transports or treatment-in-place services covered per year. The 911 call does not have to come from the member's home address.
Transports by the OKC Fire Department, which began operating an ambulance service in 2024 to supplement EMSA, are also covered under the program.
How to enroll
Residents with an OKC Utilities account can sign up three ways:

- Visit okcutilities.com
- Call Utilities Customer Service at 405-297-2833
The $3.65 fee appears on the utilities bill as a medical services program fee.
Apartment residents and others without a utilities account should check with their landlord about enrollment. Those not covered through a landlord can enroll directly with EMSA for $45 per year by calling 405-396-2888 or visiting emsacare.com.
Residents in retirement or assisted-living facilities are not eligible for the city program but can enroll directly through EMSA at the same number or website.
Current members
Residents already enrolled do not need to take any action. Enrollment carries over automatically unless a resident opts out during September.
The next enrollment window opens in September 2027.
