Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is holding two voter registration events at its Oklahoma City locations, giving community members a path to register before the Friday, Oct. 9, deadline for the Nov. 3 general election.
The nonprofit clinic's Rock the Native Vote hosts their second session runs Thursday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 5208 W. Reno Ave.
Both events are open to any community member who needs to register to vote or update an existing registration, the Journal Record reported. The effort is nonpartisan and does not support or oppose any candidate, party or campaign, the clinic said. Rock the Native Vote shirts will be available while supplies last.
"Our goal is to make voter registration accessible and convenient for the community we serve," said Angie Childers Reeves, the clinic's director of communications and community development.
Childers Reeves said civic participation gives community members a way to be heard on issues that matter to them.
The clinic, founded in 1974, serves more than 24,000 American Indian patients from more than 230 federally recognized tribes each year. It operates both locations where the registration events will take place.
The Oklahoma State Election Board lists Friday, Oct. 9, as the last day to register or change party affiliation for the Nov. 3 general election. Applications must be postmarked no later than 25 days before the election
Absentee ballot requests are due by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19. Polls on Election Day will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
