Edmond police arrested an 11-year-old girl in the shooting death of her 15-year-old brother inside their home.

Investigators took the girl into custody just before 1 a.m. Sept. 10 and transported her to a juvenile detention facility, where she was booked on a charge of second-degree murder, the Edmond Police Department said on X. No formal charges had been filed in court as of Sept. 10.

The arrest came less than nine hours after officers first responded to the Lapwing Lane residence.

Edmond police said they received a report of a shooting at a home in the 1100 block of Lapwing Lane just after 4 p.m. Sept. 9, according to an earlier department statement. Officers found the 15-year-old male dead inside.

At least one other person was present at the residence when the shooting occurred, police said. The department described the incident as isolated.

The home is near West Danforth Road and North Kelly Avenue, Fox 25 reported.

Police have not said what led to the shooting or how the boy was killed. The source of the firearm has not been addressed in any official statement. It remains unclear whether anyone else was home at the time beyond the two siblings and the at least one other person police referenced.

Because both the victim and the accused are juveniles, the department said no additional identifying information will be released.

The investigation remains open. The department said additional details will be released when possible.
