Timothy Prewitt will lead Oklahoma City-based World Neighbors as the international development nonprofit's new president and CEO.

The organization announced the appointment Sept. 1, in a statement distributed through Business Wire. World Neighbors, founded in Oklahoma in 1951, works in 14 countries on economic development, health and climate adaptation. It says it has reached more than 29 million people across 45 countries.

"Tim is the right person at the right time to further strengthen our programmatic success and financial strength," board chair Beth McLaughlin said in the announcement.

Prewitt has held leadership roles in international development for more than a decade. He most recently served as president and CEO of The Hunger Project, a global organization focused on ending hunger in Africa, South Asia and Latin America. He joined that organization in February 2021 and expanded both its community reach and its donor partnerships, according to the announcement.

Before The Hunger Project, Prewitt led iDE, also known as International Development Enterprises, as CEO from 2012 to 2019. He held senior roles at Chemonics International, where he served as regional director for Asia and head of the firm's private sector practice.

Prewitt also founded Kairos, an advisory practice that helps donors and philanthropic institutions direct their giving. He is a Fulbright Fellow who has spoken at the World Economic Forum, the Clinton Global Initiative and the World Food Prize, and has appeared on CNN.

He holds a bachelor's degree from Lancaster University, a master's from the New School for Social Research and an MBA from China Europe International Business School.

Prewitt said he looks forward to building on the organization's 75-year legacy and advancing its mission. The Journal Record reported on the appointment Sept. 2.

World Neighbors did not name Prewitt's predecessor or announce a start date for his tenure.
