Oklahoma City police arrested two men accused of stealing about $25,000 in tools and electronics from stores across the metro over six weeks.

A 31-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were taken into custody Aug. 31, after officers executed search and arrest warrants at their residences, KFOR reported. Both are held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center on felony complaints of organized retail crime, pattern of criminal offenses and conspiracy. The younger man faces an additional felony complaint of false declaration to a pawn broker.

Formal charges had not been confirmed as of publication. KOCO reported the suspects had not been formally charged as of Sept. 3.

The Oklahoma City Police Department's Larceny Unit investigated shoplifting incidents between July 15 and Aug. 31 at five major chains: Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart and Academy Sports. The thefts hit stores in Del City, Moore, Norman, Midwest City and Edmond.

Court documents described a pattern: one suspect allegedly stole the merchandise while the other served as the getaway driver, according to News9. Investigators identified the pair through store security cameras, visible tattoos, prior mugshots and a car tag number.

Capt. Ben Weir of the Oklahoma City Police Department told News9 on Wednesday, Sept. 2, that detectives had been tracking the suspects for weeks.

"What they didn't know is they were being watched by the Oklahoma City Police Department," Weir said.

Weir said the suspects targeted items that hold their value and are small enough to carry out quickly. He described the stolen goods as mostly power tools.

The suspects then sold the stolen property to a pawn shop. Weir told News9 on Sept. 2, that investigators traced the merchandise to "one particular store they were going to that was not a reputable pawn shop." Police are investigating the shop's involvement, according to KOCO. No arrests have been made in connection with the pawn shop.

Investigators recovered about $8,200 worth of stolen property following the arrests, according to KOKH.

Reports from multiple stores identified three suspects, KOKH reported. Police have not identified the third person. The Larceny Unit worked with the Oklahoma County District Attorney's office on the case.

The investigation remains open, and police said they expect additional arrests. Anyone with information about the thefts can contact the Oklahoma City Police Department.
