OKC man killed in wrong-way crash on I-40 near Cimarron Road

A 32-year-old Oklahoma City man died Saturday night after driving the wrong way on Interstate 40 and crashing into a concrete barrier, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Skyler Scott Burditt was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-40 near North Cimarron Road just before 9:30 p.m. Aug. 22 when his vehicle left the roadway, struck the barrier and rolled twice, according to KOCO, citing OHP troopers.

He was not wearing a seat belt.

OHP has not said whether other vehicles were involved or whether impairment played a role. The agency has not identified the investigating trooper by name, and no timeline for a final collision report has been released.

String of wrong-way crashes

The fatal crash is the latest in a series of wrong-way incidents on Oklahoma City-area highways in recent months.

The morning before Burditt's crash, oAug. 21, Oklahoma City police arrested a 34-year-old man on a DUI charge after a wrong-way collision near Southwest 59th Street and Walker Avenue at 5:30 a.m. A black SUV traveled east in the westbound lanes and struck another vehicle head-on, injuring one person.

In May, a wrong-way driver on I-40 in Canadian County near Czech Hall Road collided head-on with another vehicle, killing four young adults. The suspected wrong-way driver, 26-year-old Michael Salomon Rosario-Cruz, was later charged with four counts of second-degree murder.

Separately, three people were killed Aug. 20, in a fiery semi crash on I-44 near SW 119th Street, though that crash did not involve a wrong-way driver.
