A motorcyclist died Aug. 11, after colliding with a semi-truck on northbound Interstate 35 in Moore, shutting down lanes on one of the Oklahoma City metro's busiest commuter corridors during the morning rush.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes near Southwest 19th Street, under the 19th Street bridge, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was killed.

OHP had not released the victim's identity as of Tuesday. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

What OHP confirmed

OHP confirmed to local news outlets that at least one motorcycle and a semi-truck were involved in the wreck. News 9 reported that troopers said at least one motorcycle and a semi-truck collided, and that several lanes were closed in the area. OHP encouraged drivers to find alternate routes.

Early reporting from Fox 25 noted it was initially unclear which vehicle the fatality came from. Subsequent confirmation from KOCO 5 and News 9, citing OHP, established that the motorcyclist died in the collision.

Traffic backed up five miles

The inside lane of northbound I-35 was blocked while troopers investigated and crews worked to clear the scene. Traffic backed up at least five miles on the interstate, according to KOCO 5.

The roadway reopened by approximately 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to a KFOR update. KFOR photographer David Young, who was on scene, reported the wreck was located directly under the 19th Street bridge.

I-35 corridor context

I-35 runs north-south through Moore, a city of roughly 60,000 residents immediately south of Oklahoma City. The northbound lanes carry heavy commuter traffic into the metro each weekday morning, and a lane closure during peak hours can ripple delays well beyond the crash site.

OHP had not announced a timeline for releasing its full crash report as of the most recent reporting on Aug. 11.
