Schwartz Elementary School earned the No. 1 ranking among 658 Oklahoma elementary schools in the U.S. News Best Elementary Schools rankings, scoring a perfect 100 out of 100.

The school, part of the Midwest City-Del City district, posted 82% math proficiency and 72% reading proficiency on state assessments, according to its U.S. News profile. Those numbers dwarf the district averages of 19% in math and 24% in reading. Schwartz serves 311 students in pre-K through fifth grade at its Oklahoma City campus on SE 104th Street.

Other metro-area schools in the top six include:

Clegern Elementary in Edmond placed second statewide with a 99.85 score. The school posted 72% proficiency in both math and reading, well above the Edmond district averages of 47% and 44%. Clegern serves 425 students in pre-K through fifth grade.

Wayland Bonds Elementary, part of the Moore district, ranked fourth with a 99.54 score. Its 597 students posted 74% math proficiency and 62% reading proficiency. The Moore district averages are 39% in math and 37% in reading. Wayland Bonds carries an Oklahoma City mailing address on South May Avenue but is operated by Moore Public Schools.

South Lake Elementary, also in the Moore district, placed sixth with a 99.24 score. Its 666 students scored 71% proficient in math and 58% in reading.

All four schools earned "well above expectations" ratings in both math and reading performance, according to U.S. News.

The rankings weigh four factors equally at 25% each: math proficiency, math performance, reading proficiency and reading performance. Half the formula measures raw test scores. The other half factors in scores alongside socioeconomic demographics, according to U.S. News's methodology overview. The rankings cover public schools only, because they participate in common statewide assessments that allow comparison.

The state assessment data underlying the rankings comes from the EdFacts Initiative for the 2022-2023 and 2021-2022 school years, according to the school profile pages. School enrollment data comes from the Common Core of Data for 2024-25.

Nearly 47,000 elementary schools nationwide were ranked in the latest edition, according to U.S. News.
