Oklahoma City Fire Department divers recovered the body of a man who went missing in Lake Stanley Draper, ending a three-day search that covered 324 acres and depths up to 60 feet.

Crews located the victim at approximately 9:45 a.m. Aug. 26, about 250 feet southeast of where the original 911 call was placed, according to Fox 25.

The incident began around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 23, when firefighters and police responded to a possible drowning at the lake on Oklahoma City's southeast side. A group of seven family members and friends had been on the water in a boat and a wave runner when the man said he needed to use the restroom and entered the lake wearing a shirt and blue jeans, the group told first responders.

He had been wearing a life jacket. He removed it before entering the water.

Witnesses told first responders the man went underwater and did not resurface. His brother jumped in to search for him but could not find him. The group returned to shore and called 911.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department dive team and Oklahoma City Police Department deployed three boats and sonar technology to the area where the man was last seen. Oklahoma City's police helicopter also assisted in the initial response, KOCO reported.

The overnight search continued until about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 24, when a fire department boat experienced a mechanical issue. Crews paused until daylight, then transitioned the operation from a rescue mission to a body recovery.

Battalion Chief Scott Douglas, the Oklahoma City Fire Department's public information officer, told KFOR on Aug. 24 that family members were waiting on shore as divers worked. "We're out here trying to find the victim; at this point we do expect this to be a body recovery, unfortunately we do have a lot of the family on shore trying to wait and see," Douglas said.

Over the following days, dive team members searched an area spanning 324 acres. In some spots, divers worked at depths up to 60 feet.

The Oklahoma County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene Wednesday after the body was recovered and will issue a report at a later date. The victim's name has not been publicly released.
