More than 45 artists will perform for free across Oklahoma City's Bricktown district on Sept. 12. The inaugural Bandwagon: Bricktown Music Fest takes over 20-plus venues and two outdoor stages from 1 to 10 p.m.

The walkable festival, organized by Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership, spans country, hip-hop, Americana, rock, Latin, reggae, jazz and R&B, the Journal Record reported.

The Main Stage at 1 N. Oklahoma Ave. will be headlined by Heath Wright of Ricochet, backed by the Oklahoma Opry Band. Wright, a Vian native, is the lone remaining original member of the Tulsa-founded country band whose 1996 debut album went gold and produced the No. 1 single "Daddy's Money."

The Canal Stage, set along the Bricktown Canal across from Charleston's Restaurant, will feature Eric Himan and Beau Jennings & the Tigers.

"Bandwagon is really about showing the ingredients of what is already happening with live music in Bricktown," said Kristen Vails, director of place management at Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership. "We hope people follow the music throughout the district."

The festival leans on the neighborhood's deep musical roots. Douglass High School, once located in the district, is where educator Zelia Breaux mentored jazz legends Charlie Christian and Jimmy Rushing. Today the area is home to the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO), the American Banjo Museum and The Criterion concert venue.
