Around the Corner, the downtown Edmond breakfast-and-lunch restaurant that opened in 1951, marks its 75th anniversary on Sept. 1.

The restaurant started as The Corner Restaurant 75 years ago and later moved to a new location, adopting its current name along the way. The City of Edmond said in a press release the eatery has helped lead downtown activities and festivals over the decades, calling it a cornerstone of the city's historic downtown district.

Bob Weiss, who purchased the restaurant with his family in 2012, called it a community institution in the city's Aug. 31 announcement.

"Restaurants come and go, but Around the Corner has always been about people," Weiss said. "We're honored to be the caretakers of this incredible Edmond tradition and grateful to every customer, employee, and community member who has made these past 75 years possible. This restaurant belongs to Downtown Edmond's story, and we're proud to help write its next chapter."

The city described the restaurant as a gathering place for business meetings, family celebrations and newcomers getting to know the community. The press release noted that morning coffee regulars have kept the conversations going through every era of the city's growth. The Edmond History Museum provided photos for the anniversary announcement.

The City of Edmond posted on X on Aug. 31, describing the milestone as a legacy of community engagement and downtown growth.

Throughout September, the restaurant plans a month-long celebration featuring menu specials, commemorative T-shirts and coffee mugs, and events honoring the guests, families and employees who have been part of its 75-year run.
