A 17-year-old was arrested and accused of fatally shooting a 44-year-old man inside a Del City apartment early Sunday, Sept. 20, the Del City Police Department said.

Casteal Buckhanan was found on the floor of an apartment with multiple gunshot wounds at the Oakridge Village Apartments in the 3300 block of South Bryant Avenue. He was taken to OU Health, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers were called to the complex at about 4:25 a.m. after a caller reported hearing items being thrown and a woman screaming, according to the department's news release reported by KOCO. As officers arrived, a caller reported hearing five gunshots.

Police said they spotted two vehicles trying to leave the area at a high rate of speed. Officers stopped both and detained two adults and one juvenile.

Investigators determined that a dispute had taken place between Buckhanan and an adult woman inside the apartment. During the confrontation, the woman's 17-year-old son pulled a gun and fired multiple shots at Buckhanan, according to the department.

The specific address of the complex was 3354 S. Bryant Ave., OKC Fox reported.

The teen was booked into a juvenile detention facility on complaints of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a child. Formal charges had not been filed as of Sunday, and police have not released the suspect's name.

The relationship between Buckhanan and the woman and the nature of the dispute have not been disclosed.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) helped process the scene. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) assisted in locating evidence, according to the department.

Some residents at the apartment complex declined to speak about the shooting, while others told KOCO that crime is a common concern in the area.

No court date has been set.
