A 12-year-old boy died Wednesday, Oct. 21, after two vehicles struck him on a southwest Oklahoma City street, the Oklahoma City Police Department said.

The boy was running across SW 134th Street near Blackwelder Avenue when both vehicles hit him, according to KOKH. News9 reported the boy died at the scene. KOKH reported he "died from his injuries" without specifying where. KOCO and KFOR also confirmed the details.

The crash site is near Eastlake Elementary School, according to News9.

Both drivers stayed at the scene and are cooperating with investigators, police said. None of the four stations reporting on the crash identified the boy or mentioned charges against either driver.

The investigation is ongoing. Additional details were not available in the initial reports.

The fatal crash comes just over a week after a deadly stretch on Oklahoma City roads that killed three people and critically injured a fourth in four separate crashes over 24 hours. In coverage published in October, KOKH reported that Staff Sgt. Dillon Quirk of the Oklahoma City Police Department urged drivers to stay focused, especially with school in session.

"School is in session right now as well. So those little ones make sure we want to make sure they get where they're going safely as well," Quirk said in that earlier coverage.

Oklahoma City adopted a Vision Zero plan on Feb. 25, 2025, with the goal of eliminating traffic fatalities on city roads. The city's Vision Zero page shows traffic deaths increased 34% to 99 fatalities in 2021, the most recent year cited on the page.

Most traffic fatalities in Oklahoma City occur on streets where speeds are 45 mph or above, or on streets with limited street lighting, according to the city's data.
